Common Grace

Common Grace assists Noble County residents who are experiencing financial insecurity.

COMMON GRACE IS OPEN BY APPOINTMENT ONLY WITH WALK-INS ACCEPTED ONLY IF THEY DO NOT INTERFERE WITH A SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT. PLEASE CALL OUR OFFICE WHEN YOU ARRIVE AND WE WILL INVITE YOU INSIDE AS SOON AS WE ARE READY FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT. THIS ALLOWS YOU MORE PRIVACY FOR YOUR APPLICATION AND IS A SAFETY MEASURE FOR OUR TEAM.

How We Can Assist You:

RENT:  Bring your eviction notice and/or a letter from your landlord.

The notice or letter must include:

  • Your name and address

  • Amount of late rent

  • Amount of late fees

  • The date your rent is due

  • Your landlord's address and phone number.

If your landlord has not already submitted a W-9 to us, they MUST do so before we are able to consider assistance for rent.  Please bring their phone number and/or email with you.

UTILITIES:  Bring the following:

  • Your disconnect notice

  • Your MOST RECENT full bill.

    • This may be faxed to us at the request of the neighbor.

  • If you receive your billing electronically, we will need a printout of your bill or you may email it to us at info@commongraceministries.org before your appointment.

Please come in as soon as you receive the disconnect notice as it takes time to process this with the utility company.

If the bill is not in your name, we will need a Utility Affidavit to verify that the bill is your responsibility. Please bring your landlord’s phone number and/or email with you.

MEDICATION ASSISTANCE:  Bring a printout from your pharmacy that states:

  • The name of the medications you need

  • The amount due for each medication.

Please note:  WE DO NOT ASSIST WITH ANY CONTROLLED MEDICATIONS or SELECTED OTHER CLASSES OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS.

IDENTIFICATION UPDATE:  We will need to see all of the required documentation to update your identification before we are able to assist you.

  • We will help you identify the documents you will need & then help you obtain them.

  • We can sometimes pay for birth certificates & other documents IF the provider allows us to mail a check.

  • We can help pay for your license once we have all of the necessary documents in hand as per our agreement with the BMV.

How It Works

Call 260-349-1942 to make an appointment to complete an application.

Bring a current photo ID for all adults 18 and older.

For children under the age of 18, you must provide one of the following:

  • Birth Certificate

  • Social Security Card

  • Passport

  • Legal Documents

  • Medicaid card with the individual's name

  • School Social Worker letter stating the child is in the household

When you arrive, please remain in your car and call in to let the team know you have arrived. They will invite you inside as soon as they are ready for your appointment. Our team will complete an application with you.  Be ready to discuss:

  • 30 days of income

  • 30 days of expense

  • 5 years of work history for all adults in the household

  • The reason for your need.

You will be given a Where Does Your Money Go worksheet to be completed at home with your actual expenses.

You will need to call the Kendallville office at 260-349-1942 on the following business day to discuss whether or not we are able to assist.

If we are able to assist, you may be given conditions of the assistance.  For example, you may be asked to pay part of the bill before we pay the remainder or we may ask for clarification or further documentation.

Once you have satisfied your part of the conditions, you will need to make an appointment to return to the Kendallville office to receive the the check(s) for the amount Common Grace is able to assist you.

You MUST complete your Where Does Your Money Go worksheet at home and bring it back when you come for the payout of your assistance.  Not doing so will result in delayed payout.

CONDITIONS THAT MAY RESULT IN NO LONGER RECEIVING SERVICES FROM COMMON GRACE OR ANY MINISTRY OF COMMON GRACE MINISTRIES:

1.  BEING DISHONEST ON THE APPLICATION OR AT ANY TIME DURING YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH ANY MINISTRY OF COMMON GRACE MINISTRIES

2.  BEING DISRESPECTFUL TO STAFF, VOLUNTEERS OR OTHER NEIGHBORS AT ANY TIME.
