SISTER ELSIE FREGEAU (Retired)

Sister Elsie was born and raised in the Chicago area. After being widowed at 50 years of age, she cared for her father and mother-in-law in my home as they battled cancer.  She believed that God spent much time teaching her about the health system and she finally responded to God's call to serve her church.  She was accepted into the Deaconess Community in 1989 prior to finishing her seminary education.  She completed her undergrad at Concordia University in River Forest, IL and her seminary education at Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago in 1992.  She chose to be a member of the Deaconess Community of the ELCA because she believed God was calling her to serve her church as a chaplain rather than a Pastor.  Sister Elsie has four children and five grandchildren.  She served as a nursing home chaplain with the Chicago Metro Synod for over two years and the Chicago area hospice as a chaplain. She served as a Bereavement Coordinator for eight years.  Following her retirement from that position in 2004, she moved to Indiana and served at Calvary Lutheran Church in Cromwell as their Interim Minister.  She retired AGAIN in 2013 and now serves on the boards of The Lighthouse Ministry Daycare in Ligonier, Common Grace Ministries, Inc. of Noble County and The Apple Tree Ministry in Kendallville.  She continues to volunteer for Home Health Hospice in the Noble County area.
